COMPETITOR ENTRY INFORMATION TO NOTE

This competition is run under the guidelines and rules of New Zealand Recreational Dance Inc in either Dancesport or Recreational division as applicable.

Changes for this year :-

Dancesport couples can dance their own grade and one higher as well as enter the Open to all events for their age group – either Juvenile/Junior, Youth/Adult or Masters.

All recreation competitors can dance in their own age group as well as the Open to All events – age applies to the three sections – under 16, 16-35 or 35+.

With the new D grade being introduced, we have not been able to add all five dances for Ballroom and Latin American but instead have offered two dances in these styles

-

In all the grades, you can choose to dance all or some of the dances.

All competitors must be registered with NZRDI (New Zealand Recreation Dance Inc) in either Dancesport or Recreational division as applicable.

Youth and Masters competitors may also enter the Adult divisions, however please note that couples may have to dance events consecutively.

All Dancesport events listed will be New Zealand Titles.

All Pro-Am events are run during the Recreational events.

-

North vs South Teams Match

This is a long-standing event that has been fought out between the two islands since 1964, when it was started at the Junior, Juvenile Nationals and will be the last event of our Championship.
It is a fun and very competitive event with the couples selected being the top North and South Island couples from particular events.

Juvenile - selected from Juvenile/Junior Open Gypsy Tap
Junior - selected from Juvenile/Junior Open Samba
Youth - selected from Youth/Adult Open Quickstep
Adult - selected from Youth/Adult Open Cha Cha
Masters 1 - selected from Masters 1/Masters 2 Open Waltz
Masters 2 - selected from Masters 1/Masters 2 Open Tango Terrific

If there is no couple in the final of the chosen event from one of the islands, then the 2nd placed couple (of that age group) in the event will be invited to represent that island.

-

Champion of Champions

In previous years, the Champion of Champions has been based on Open events only.  Since we have combined age groups for the Open events this year, we have decided to base it on the number of wins in the respective grade for Dancesport.  Recreation will remain the same with the most number of wins in the age division.
To make it fair for Dancesport grades, we will only be basing it on 2 x New Vogue dances plus the 5 x Ballroom and 5 x Latin American over C, B and A grades.

Junior/Juvenile - La Bomba and Merrilyn (C grade), Carousel and Tangoette (B grade) and La Bomba and Carousel (A grade)
Youth/Adult - Twilight Waltz and Tango Terrific (C grade), Swing Waltz and La Bomba (B grade), Lucille Waltz and Tango Terrific (A grade)
Masters1/Masters 2 - Swing Waltz and Merrilyn (C grade), Swing Waltz and Barclay Blues (B grade), Tracie-Leigh Waltz and Carousel (A grade)
